Product description
Marine DecoCEM is a decorative, 1-component ready-mixed filler designed to create an exclusive and elegant appearance on a wide range of surfaces such as concrete, steel, wood, fiber cement, and plywood panels, etc. The product can be applied alone in 2 layers without top coat. Floors, countertops, and other exposed surfaces should be treated afterwards with Marine DecoCEM Sealer WB to provide extra waterproof protection that is easier to clean. Marine DecoCEM has been developed to be simple and easy to use. The product is suitable for both vertical and horizontal surfaces and ensures a uniform and elegant result. It is ideal for giving concrete surfaces on countertops, furniture, and similar items a unique and exclusive touch.
Marine DecoCEM is designed to renew and upgrade a wide range of surfaces. The product is applied in a 2-layer treatment, with or without topcoat. To protect exposed surfaces such as floors, countertops, and wet room areas, a final treatment with DecoCEM Sealer WB is recommended. This provides extra protection, increases wear resistance, and makes surfaces easier to clean. Marine DecoCEM can be applied to both absorbent and non-absorbent substrates, including plastered surfaces, previously painted surfaces, terrazzo, and epoxy floors, provided the substrate is even and level.
The substrate must be suitable, solid, and free from loose particles, cement slurry, dust, and other contaminants that may prevent good adhesion. Depending on the substrate’s condition, it is always recommended to prime with Marine Primer F before beginning work. Marine Primer F ensures optimal adhesion and the best conditions for applying Marine DecoCEM.
Marine DecoCEM can be applied with a paint roller with approx. 5 mm (0.2 in) pile or with a steel trowel, with layer thickness between 0.2–0.4 mm (0.01–0.02 in) per layer. To achieve a color variation (New York look), it is recommended to apply a lighter color in the first layer and a darker color in the second layer, as the surface texture is created in the second layer with the steel trowel. Marine DecoCEM can also be applied in a single color in both layers for a more uniform and calm look. For the best result and to reduce product consumption, it is recommended to use a steel trowel for both the first and second layers. A brush can be used to reach more difficult areas.
Before applying Marine DecoCEM, prime the substrate with Marine Primer F. When the primer is dry, typically after 30–50 minutes drying time at room temperature, the first layer is applied with a steel trowel in smooth strokes. Work systematically so that the entire surface is even and covered with the product, while avoiding major elevations and irregularities.
After approximately 60–90 minutes drying time at room temperature, sand the surface lightly with sandpaper in grit size 80–150 to remove minor irregularities. Manual sanding is recommended for the best finish. If a sanding machine is used, the speed should be low to avoid burn marks or sanding through the coating.
After sanding, the second layer is applied with a steel trowel in smooth, flowing movements. When using two colors, the second layer can be applied in opposite directions to achieve the desired texture. Work carefully so the entire surface is even and fully covered, while avoiding major elevations and irregularities. Sanding the surface on untreated walls and ceilings will affect the final appearance. A sanded surface will give a more rustic look, while an unsanded surface results in a more uniform and calm expression.
Do not use Marine DecoCEM if the temperature is below +5°C (41°F) or above +35°C (95°F). The product should not be applied outdoors if rain, snow, hail, or similar is expected within 48 hours.
Approx. 8–24 hours after applying the final layer of Marine DecoCEM (when fully dry), apply DecoCEM Sealer WB to protect the surface and achieve the desired effect or required durability.
Note:
The surface must not come into contact with liquids during the first 7 days after applying DecoCEM Sealer WB. All transitions to floor drains, pipe penetrations, or adjacent surfaces must be sealed with wet room or sanitary silicone before the surface is put into use.
Marine DecoCEM is supplied in four standard colors: White, Light Grey, Grey, and Anthracite. If required, Marine DecoCEM can also be tinted in a selection of special shades on request.
Tools and equipment must be cleaned with water immediately after use. Hardened material can only be removed mechanically.
Marine DecoCEM can be used for 1–2 hours, depending on temperature. In many cases, the product can be “kept active” for 3–4 hours by stirring the finished mixture occasionally. Cold environments in the structure and/or cooled products will extend drying time, while high temperatures can affect the product’s properties by shortening working time and causing it to dry too quickly.
